As an MK, returning to Canada can be one of the hardest and most important transitions you and your family will make. It's totally normal to face challenges and feel unnerved or uprooted! The Classic Reboot retreat will help you navigate the transition and give you tools you need to thrive in re-entry.
But, Classic ReBoot is also for you if you're an MK and you've been back for several years! At ReBoot you'll get to discover so much about your MK identity, how you build and develop relationships, and how you can actually process some of the difficult or unique things about growing up MK.
You'll form incredible relationships, and create amazing life-long memories.
Our two amazing venues! (Rotating each summer)
A program designed just for You.
Classic ReBoot is a unique retreat for MKs moving
back to Canada, or for MKs who’ve arrived in Canada in the past few
years but haven’t experienced a re-entry or transition retreat. It's a week long and happens every year in Toronto or Calgary.
As an MK, your life has been full of unique opportunities, highs and lows, cross-cultural experiences, and multiple transitions. There's a lot going on there. And, a lot that the average Canadian wouldn't understand. That's why ReBoot is by MKs for MKs. The MK staff team, the presenters, and those organizing it, have all been where you are, and can support you, listen to you, and cheer you on.
The transition to Canada to study, work, or enjoy a gap year is one of the biggest transitions you'll ever experience. At Classic ReBoot, you’ll build new relationships with fellow MKs; have a safe place to share what’s on your mind, discuss common challenges, and be equipped to thrive in your transition.
Through sports & outdoor activities, conversation, relationships and incredible sessions, we’ll help you:
- Review and celebrate your life experiences as an MK
- Refresh through fun activities, worship, and meaningful relationships
- Reenter and transition to Canadian life and culture with understanding and confidence.
What do MKs say about ReBoot?
- “I loved meeting a lot of MKs like me, who understand what I am going through and are willing to talk, share, and listen.”
- “I went to ReBoot last summer at the ripe old age of 20. I had been in Canada for 8 years before attending ReBoot. Yes, most of the participants were young and fresh to Canada. But... my experience was awesome!”
- “It is an open environment where one can share, be oneself, ask questions.”

What topics are covered?
We have an incredible staff and teachers from around North America. You’ll get to learn from their experience, and cover a bunch of topics including:
- Your MK Identity and Experiences.
- Transition and Re-entry to your Home Country.
- Unpacking Canadian Life and Culture.
1. MK Identity:
MKs get to explore:
- What it means to be uniquely themselves
- How they have been shaped by their MK/TCK experience
- What are unique aspects of people who grow up between two (or more) different cultures?
- How do they answer when someone asks them where they’re from?
- How they can retain their "MK-ness" and personality and still find acceptance, belonging, and meaning in Canada
2. Transition and Re-entry:
MKs unpack the process of re-entry and transition:
- Participants learn about how to process grief and loss
- These feelings and experiences are normalized and unpacked as a natural response to an international move
- Time and space are provided to help participants begin to process these feelings in healthy and helpful ways
- Participants receive teaching about mental health, self-care, and the importance of Christian community
3. Canadian Life and Culture:
Through games, panels, trip and challenges MKs get a crash course in what it means to be Canadian. MKs learn about:
- How Canadians build and maintain relationships
- What are Canadian transit systems like to use
- Finances, jobs and employment in Canada
- Church, faith and spirituality in Canada
- Canadian food classics (i.e., Tim Horton's, poutine and beaver tails)
- and much more!
